HP unveils VR Backpack

HP unveiled the high-end backpack PC which will be powered by some of the high-end chips from NVIDIA and Intel to power the wireless VR for commercial use. The PC is expected to weigh more than 10 pounds and includes a dock so that it can be used as the high-end desktop workstation which can be removed and strapped on to make it a wearable PC.

The PC also includes a pair of onboard batteries which can be taken out so that people can experience the VR content for a longer period of time. There is also an internal battery which can be easily swapped out at once while the system is running.

Here is the quick summary of the PC -

  1. The PC has a wearable form factor using a backpack harness. It also has the reinforced chassis and a top cover frame feature and an RGB LED indicator (indicates system health).

  2. A docking station so that it can be converted from backpack to desktop use module.

  3. The PC will be running on Windows 10 Pro OS.

  4. The PC will have NVIDIA Quadro P5200 graphics with 16GB GDDR5 memory

  5. It will also have the 7th generation Intel core i7 processor with pro technology.

  6. The PC will be ISV certified to provide fast and reliable performance with 3D textures.

  7. Couple of SODIMMs for system memory up to 32GB

  8. HP performance advisor for enhanced performance

  9. Will support multi display (up to 4 displays, 2 from docking solution and rest from HP Z VR Compact Workstation)

  10. One thunderbolt port on the new USB type C connector for high transfer speed.

  11. DTS studio Sound Audio which is optimized for high-quality audio with rich bass and no distortion at high volume.

  12. Wireless connectivity of Intel Dual Band 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2

  13. Internal battery with hot swap external batteries (6 cell of 55WHr)

  14. Dedicated storage slot

  15. HP Client Security Manager

  16. It is designed to pass military standard

  17. HTC Vive Combo cable is also included with the PC.

The PC is for the gamers who want to collaborate or soldiers who want to train on the virtual battlefield. The backpack is rugged enough to sustain military grade drop, water, dust. The backpack will be priced at $3,299 and will be available to general customers from September. Let’s see whether this PC will be able to draw the attention of all the people or not.
