VR reformulating the Storytelling at A/D/O
The technology of virtual reality has been gaining traction and has the potential for architects and designers. The emergence of virtual reality applications for designs has been one of the big stories of the past few years .VR has the potential to become an integral part not just of presenting a project, but of the designing process too.
Recently, the technology behind VR and AR is leading to innovations in fields of gaming to real estate, theatre to fine art and much more. Recently Brooklyn creative space A/D/O announced that New Reality Co. will serve as its second artist-in-residence for design.
A/D/O is a design space in Greenpoint that opened last winter to much fanfare and provides a new revolutionary kind of space for designers. It provides a new kind of platform for designers. The appointment of New Reality Co. to succeed inaugural artist-in-residence Stephen Burks marks a look to the future. New Reality Company utilises virtual, augmented, mixed and actual reality to tap into positive social change and explore the human experience.
Its vision is compatible with the theme of A/D/O's second season, Common Sense. During their period of time in Greenpoint, Porter and Zec will be creating Breathe, a multisensory experiential story by Luke Davies. The project is the final in a trilogy whose first two parts, Giant and Tree, landed New Reality Co. on Adweek's Creative 100 list.
Giant is a narration of two parents struggles to distract their young daughter by inventing a fantastical tale. This immersive virtual-reality experience transports the viewer into the family's makeshift basement shelter and in Tree VR experience allows you to become a seed that is planted and grows into a full-sized tree in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.
New Reality Co. plans to unveil Breathe in September of this year which is expected to create other everlasting effects on its viewers.
