Hillcrest Labs launches advanced motion sensor aiming at improving AR and VR
Hillcrest Labs is known for its hardware products, has announced the launch of high-performance sensor technology that allows high accuracy at the reasonable price and can function at low power. The latest sensor is called as FSM300, aims at improving augmented reality, virtual reality, fitness tracking, industrial monitoring, robotic navigation and much more. The high tracking accuracy and low latency will help in reducing the motion sickness issue faced by some VR users.
There are some manufacturers that have begun using the latest motion sensor like Grey Technology Ltd., ZUta Labs. According to the company, FSM300 module is a small-scale form factor and is pre-calibrated with the latency of just 2 milliseconds. The company also said that the device has the orientation accuracy of 1 degree and sampling rates up to 1 KHz.
According to VP of ZUlta labs (one of the companies that use FSM300 chips),” FSM300 delivers superior accuracy and maintains high calibration compared to the other IMUs we have previously worked with. It also allowed us to complete our product design faster as we did not have the list of quality issue to address.”
According to VR of Grey Technology,” FSM300 has an added advantage of easy integration with excellent support service provided by Hillcrest Labs. This saves a lot of time that can be used to focus on another area.”
The advanced motion sensing is one area where we can expect increased focus and attention to enable the developers competitive in the sectors like AR, VR, 3D Audio, Robotics, mHealth technologies, Wearables. These are those sectors which are expected to grow rapidly in the next five years.
