Qualcomm brings All-in-one Snapdragon 835 Virtual Reality Development Kit
In a world where a few clicks on the screen can take you to an entirely new surrounding and every day, there's something new waiting for you to explore and indulge yourself in a new experience. Another technology is waiting for you to make your life easier. Recently Qualcomm announced the virtual reality development kit for their Snapdragon 835 mobile platform which can act as a catalyst application. The company has integrated lots of features into the chip that will help in moving towards new development in the field of virtual reality. Although most VR headsets are either tethered or slot-in designs that use smartphones. The Snapdragon 835 VR development kit is a standalone VR headset along with a single panel AMOLED HMD and an integrated processor. It is designed to power standalone virtual reality headsets and provide 15ms motion to photon latency.
It also provides six-degrees of freedom for precise motion tracking through two monochromatic cameras with fish-eye lenses, two monochromatic VGA global shutter cameras with depth sensing, and a host of sensors. It provides great performance and other improvements in the Snapdragon 835 display and video processing units. The 835 includes support for HRTE binaural audio processing which can imitate the characteristics of the human ear for realistic sound placement. It has sensors which include head tracking cameras, multiple microphones, gyro, accelerometer, and magnetometer.
It includes dual front-facing cameras for 6DoF motion tracking which is done at a fast 800Hz rate using the integrated Hexagon DSP. The HMD includes 4GB of RAM, 64GB storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB-C connectivity, Qualcomm's Aqstic audio codec. It has a trackpad for controlling the interface. The integration of hand-tracking tech into the platform allows rendering the hand movements with low latency and enabling your hands as the controller in virtual reality. Snapdragon 835 is designed to be Qualcomm's most power efficient flagship mobile. The product is designed very much according to smartphones. Qualcomm has taken a great step into the mobile virtual and augmented reality markets and is expected to attract a great deal of user's attention.
