Bixby

You might have heard of Bixby as the next big thing by Samsung. But, what is Bixby? Bixby is a pocket assistant which combines the power of machine learning, voice assistance, visual help and many more features in one app. Bixby is also seen as the Samsung’s reply to Apple’s Siri, Google’s Assistant and Microsoft’s Cortana. Bixby comes inbuilt with Samsung Galaxy 8 and Samsung Note 8. Initially, Samsung faced a lot of challenge in getting Bixby to the masses but now it is available in more than 200 countries.

Samsung says that Bixby learns over time, recognizing "natural language" to make interacting with your phone easier. It understands cross-application commands and it can be accessed without any interruptions to what you're already doing on-screen. It means that you can lower the screen brightness while scrolling down Facebook simultaneously. The best thing about Bixby is that you can create your own voice commands.

Bixby is not quite the same as Google Assistant as it is more conversational and apologetic when it messes up. It is a voice-activated virtual assistant that truly aims to please. Bixby's voice is a pocket assistant which you can use to talk and get your things done. Let’s see some of the cool things that you can do with Bixby.

  • See all the previously asked questions as Bixby records all of the questions you ask, along with all the answers that it has delivered.

  • You can use Bixby vision to extract or translate text, search for images similar to what your camera sees, shop for those items.

  • You can change the language and speaking style of Bixby very easily.

Samsung recently unveiled a Bixby-powered smart speaker and is already working on a range of smart appliances. The company wants to power whole homes with its voice assistant. But the only limitation is that Bixby only recognizes English and Korean. Samsung has assured that it’ll get additional language support with time.

Samsung is trying to establish itself in the AI market but it will have to overcome the likes of Google Home or Amazon Alexa. Now, only time will tell whether Samsung is able to achieve what it thought or not.
