Raising an alarm for coders, gamers, race fans, and drone enthusiasts from around the world, Lockheed Martin is now launching an open innovation challenge called AlphaPilot in order to address the role of autonomy in our collective futures by focusing on artificial intelligence for autonomous systems.
What is the challenge all about?
AlphaPilot has been designed to inspire, entertain, as well as galvanize public interest in a world that has been enabled by autonomy. The ultimate challenge is to design an artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) framework that without any human intervention or navigational pre-programming holds the capacity of being able to fly a drone through several professional drone racing courses.
How does your contribution to the competition help?
By participating in this competition, your knowledge and ideas can directly contribute to the future of autonomous transportation, disaster relief, delivery, and even space exploration!
AlphaPilot, making its way through fun and challenging objectives, around the common challenges of trusted autonomous systems will unite a diverse community of practice and emerging experts.
What do you have to do?
Today, Drone racing, with over 60 million annual viewers across 80 countries turns out to be one of the world’s fastest growing sports.
In this competition, all the participant needs to do is to complete the computational infrastructure for their AI/ML design, testing, and training. All drone aspects like sensors, platform, datasets, simulations, and GPUs – will be provided. Races will be produced in partnership with the Drone Racing League as a new, technology-driven evolution of the drone racing sport.
The ultimate goal of the competition is to make AI/ML quality the only discriminator.
What are the prizes for the top performers?
AlphaPilot has put up awards more than $2,000,000 in prizes for all its top performers! Don’t miss out on the chance to show the world your talent and become an international drone racing celebrity!
Finally, How to take part in the competition?
The application process for the competition will open in November. All the entrants will be required to submit information regarding their team members, sponsors or legal entity affiliation, available resources, and via a provided application template the proposed AI/ML solution as well.
It is to note that the Contest is only open to applicants who, in their country of residence are the age of majority or at least 18 years of age, whichever is older as of the start of the Contest.
The pressure will be on par, as, competing on the same courses, professional DRL pilots over your autonomous drones defend their superiority. So, Who do you think will be the first to outperform a human pilot?
